Configuring Mac Mail to Access Microsoft Office 365 Exchange Online

NOTE: DO NOT FOLLOW THESE STEPS UNLESS YOU HAVE RECEIVED CONFIRMATION THAT YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT MIGRATION HAS BEEN COMPLETED.

If you are already using Mac Mail to manage your email, you may have your email set to leave your email on the server. This enables you to check all of your messages from any device – mobile, web access, etc. – at any time. This process uses what we call IMAP settings.
Or you may have Mac Mail set to remove your email messages from the server and store them locally on your computer’s hard drive. This process uses what we call POP settings. In using POP settings, you can also select the option to leave a copy on the server.

The following instructions should be used if you currently have Mac Mail configured with IMAP settings.

To configure Mac Mail to access your email on the Microsoft 365 Exchange Online server, you’ll need to set up a new account in Mac Mail. Remember that all of your email, folders, contacts and calendar items have been moved to the new server for you. You will, however, need to make a note of any email management rules that you have configured in Mac Mail. Those will need to be recreated in the new account.

STEP 1. Select Preferences in Mac Mail.

Step 2. Select Accounts, next to General. Then click the + sign at the bottom of the window to add a new account.
MacMail Step2 Select Accounts copy2

Step 3. Enter the information for your account. Your full name, your College of Wooster email address and your email password. Then click continue.
MacMail Step4 enter information

Step 4. Mail will now contact the exchange server to find the settings for your account. Once this is complete, you should see the account summary window below. Click Create.
MacMail Step5 Select Create

Step 5. You have now created your new account. You can edit what this account is called under Description, if you wish. Note that your old account will still be visible. Once you have created the new account, you can access the old account BUT DO NOT SEND EMAIL YOUR OLD GROUPWISE/SCOTMAIL ACCOUNT. Once you are sure that everything has transferred, it is best to delete the old account from Mac Mail.
