When working from it is important to remember your home internet security. Some companies offer free security measures provided with certain packages. You may also be offered services through your home security provider for cybersecurity and personal protection. The College even requires that you access your network using a VPN for certain applications when working from home.
Passwords are Important
Your home internet should have TWO unique passwords. One for your wireless internet access and one for your administrative access. These password should be unique to each process and not related to you personally. It is also recommend that they be 8 to 20 characters long including capital, lowercase, numbers and symbols.
Your devices should also have a unique password and be powered off when not in use. It is a best practices to always secure your device with a password. Some services can require a Multi-Factor Authentication code. This code allows for an extra layer of protection for you and the service provider.
VPN Best Practices
VPN should be active when using applications that require a VPN. If you are not using those applications the VPN should be turned off as it can interfere with your internet speed. You should never have 2 VPN’s running at the same time.
